How much is a 3.6% Social Security increase?
For a $2,000 gross monthly benefit, the estimated increase is $2,000 × 0.036 = $72 per month. The new gross amount is $2,072, and the increase across 12 months is $864. This example does not estimate your net bank deposit.
| Current gross monthly benefit | Monthly increase at 3.6% | Estimated new gross benefit |
|---|---|---|
| $1,000.00 | $36.00 | $1,036.00 |
| $1,500.00 | $54.00 | $1,554.00 |
| $2,000.00 | $72.00 | $2,072.00 |
| $2,500.00 | $90.00 | $2,590.00 |
| $3,000.00 | $108.00 | $3,108.00 |
These examples apply a simple percentage to a monthly gross amount. They are not a personalized SSA award calculation. Gross increases and changes to your take-home payment can differ when deductions change.
How this calculator works
Enter your current gross monthly Social Security benefit and an adjustment rate. This tool estimates the percentage increase and a full year of payments at the new rate. SSA applies its own rounding rules, so your official amount can differ.
Try different inputs to compare scenarios. Results are estimates for general information.
A few helpful answers.
Is this my exact payment?
No. The calculator applies a simple percentage to your gross benefit. Your SSA notice determines your actual award and payment after deductions.
When does the 2027 increase begin?
SSA says the 3.6% adjustment begins with Social Security benefits payable in January 2027. Increased SSI payments begin December 31, 2026.
Should I enter my bank deposit?
Use your gross benefit before deductions. A bank deposit may already exclude Medicare premiums or tax withholding, which can distort the estimate.
Can I use this for an SSDI increase estimate?
You can use the percentage tool to estimate a gross disability benefit increase. It does not determine SSDI eligibility, recompute your award, or apply individual program rules.
Can I calculate SSI payments here?
This tool is designed for a simple gross Social Security benefit comparison. SSI amounts depend on program rules and individual circumstances; do not use this result as an SSI entitlement estimate.
Does a 3.6% COLA mean 3.6% more in my bank account?
Not necessarily. The calculator estimates a gross increase. Your net payment also depends on deductions such as Medicare premiums and tax withholding.
